Multiattribute Structure for QALYs

چکیده

H status is inherently a multiattribute construct. We examine multiattribute utility decompositions for the quality-adjusted life year (QALY) utility model commonly employed in medical decision and costeffectiveness analyses. We consider several independence conditions on preference, including the classical notions of preferential independence and utility independence, as well as new related notions of standard-gamble independence and time-tradeoff independence. The latter conditions are helpful in simplifying standard-gamble utility assessment procedures and time-tradeoff assessment procedures in the presence of multiple health attributes. Under the QALY model, all these conditions are equivalent and result in a purely multiplicative decomposition of utility over health states.

A Characterization of Quality-Adjusted Life-Years Under Cumulative Prospect Theory

Quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) are the most common utility measure in medical decision analysis and economic evaluations of health care. This paper presents an axiomatization of QALYs under cumulative prospect theory (CPT), currently the most influential model for decision under uncertainty. Because the set of health states need not be endowed with a natural topology that is connected, we ...

Measuring the Benefits of Healthcare: DALYs and QALYs – Does the Choice of Measure Matter? A Case Study of Two Preventive Interventions

Background The measurement of health benefits is a key issue in health economic evaluations. There is very scarce empirical literature exploring the differences of using quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) or disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) as benefit metrics and their potential impact in decision-making.   Methods Two previously published models delivering outputs in QALYs, were adapted...

Estimation of Flow Zone Indicator Distribution by Using Seismic Data: A Case Study from a Central Iranian Oilfield

Flow unit characterization plays an important role in heterogeneity analysis and reservoir simulation studies. Usually, a correct description of the lateral variations of reservoir is associated with uncertainties. From this point of view, the well data alone does not cover reservoir properties. Because of large well distances, it is difficult to build the model of a heterogenic reservoir, but ...

Preference Representation for Multi-Unit Multiattribute Auctions

The problem of multi-unit multiattribute trading, though useful in practical procurement settings, has been rarely addressed in auction literature. We present a general framework to structure specifications of preferences over multi-unit multiattribute outcomes, allowing flexible tradeoffs between expressiveness and compactness of representation. Next, we use this framework to propose an auctio...
